EVERY THANKSGIVING THE SAME RITUAL. Thanksgiving dinner during the Detroit game, dinner and family arguments finished by end of the fourth quarter. The family retired with the nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandkids to the living room; Sam and Dean to Dean’s man cave to watch the Cowboys.

This year Dallas faced the Redskins, perennial Eastern Conference doormats but always tough against the Cowboys. And this game proved no different with the score tied at 17 at the end of the first half. The boys broke to the kitchen for leftovers and a second mini-keg.

Dean’s wife Daneel shouted from the living room. “Who’s winning?”

Sam held up both hands with fingers crossed. Dean hoisted the mini-keg. “Game’s tied, but Prescott passed for 250 yards in the first half alone.” The wives raised their wine glasses with their usual enthusiasm which, in the case of football, was little indeed, then immediately turned their attention to Christmas movies with the kids.
