I’m not sure I sense a conclusion here. I, too, feel a loss, when software presents me with a selection of digital icons that poorly represent the real choices I want to make. Nonetheless, I feel designers are always equipped to find new images to convey the complex choices and ideas created by software paradigms. It simply takes time for our brains to readjust and make new connections to previously unconsidered ideas. In other words, new metaphors. The same process that fueled iconic imagery (and poetic as well) since we began to create art.
