Ironically, if countries that claim to be Christian (and Moslem) would simply observe a sabbath/shabbat as intended, with no work between sundown to sundown one day a week (or even midnight to midnight), we would have achieved this already. But a society driven by commercial concerns has already undermined the sabbath we're supposed to observe. In America, we could simply say: Sunday the way the Bible intended—no football, no malls, walk to church in your neighborhood if you worship rather than drive to the megachurch across town, and if you don't work relax with the coffee or tea you brewed the day before. You could even use your iPad/tablet as long as you don't recharge, and don't get distracted by petty arguments such as "books kill trees so should we stop reading on the day of rest too?"
(I'm old enough to remember when blue laws existed in many states, laws that closed the malls and stores. Christians put up little more than token resistance to overturning those laws, and now they conduct commerce in many churches. Starbucks with your hymnal anyone?)
