Max directed the helicopter pilot to Jennifer’s house. The rental cost him a fortune, but it was her birthday. Their tenth anniversary, too. At his feet was an ice bucket with a bottle of Le Chemin du Roi, in his arms a bouquet of yellow and white long-stemmed roses cut from the vine at the florist on the way to the heliport, and in his pocket tickets to Esperanza Spalding — Jennifer’s GCF.[1]

Trailing the helicopter was a banner that read, “I 😍 Jennifer❣️❣️❣️”

The entire package set him back three thousand dollars, and that didn’t include the tab for the table he booked at La Maison de Faux following the concert. Three month’s salary but worth every dime to shower his affection on his one true love.

Jennifer dashed onto the porch, half-dressed, hair in rollers, preparing for an evening out. Max leaned from the cockpit and peeled the rose petals so they drifted onto the lawn.
