The beauty of the language is that we have so many great words. As a writer, we have so few opportunities to use them. I believe we should write words people know when we need to be understood. Most of the time, we write to be understood and not to impress, which restricts us (me) to maybe five percent of our working vocabulary.
Does that mean we stop learning? No. Occasionally the perfect moment serves itself up and all that work proved efficacious after all. If a few readers can’t decipher the meaning by context, so be it.
