The great problem of religion:

An epiphany, an encounter with the divine (perceived or real) transforms the world by introducing a new path to enlightenment, self-reflection and morality and a path to destruction when it attracts those who would use it to consolidate power.

If God were to move me to found a new religion, my first question would be, “Really?”

His answer would be. “No. Just kidding. You people always lose the message in the noise.”

PS: I often believe Jesus never wrote anything down because he suspected his followers would codify it, which was the opposite of what he would have wished. Unfortunately, they codified his sayings anyway and then completely rewrote them in the marginalia.
