The seductive scent of distraction
A pre-publication offered to the The Cacophony Society
This exquisite corpse,
this rack of ribs
smoked, still steaming,
stands between me and
my destination,
distracting me,
demanding to be
devoured. Now.
Some might feel guilt for
delaying their journey,
but destinations don’t depart
They wait for
us to find our way.
Ribs, however, will be
long gone when I return
and furthermore,
on my journey to
recover them I will
greet face after face
enraptured by the flavor
of ribs still tingling
their tongues,
their lips red with the
sauce lavishly slathered
upon that rack of ribs
of which only
gnawed bones remain.
